ANARCHIVE LICENCE AGREEMENT (BETA)

Copyright © 2026 Doug Cain. All rights reserved.

This agreement is between you and Doug Cain, who makes Anarchive ("the Developer"). It covers the Anarchive application and everything distributed with it, including its helper programs and the third-party software described in section 7 (together, "the Software"). By installing or using the Software you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, do not install or use the Software.

IN PLAIN WORDS

Anarchive is free beta software. It is unfinished: it will have bugs, it may lose or damage your work, and it may change, stop working or expire. You use it at your own risk. It is provided as it is, with no promise that it works, and the Developer is not responsible for what happens when you use it, including lost or damaged pictures, videos or libraries, so keep your own backups.

If something breaks, please tell us (section 10). That is what the beta is for, and we would much rather hear about a problem than not.

Your pictures, videos and libraries stay on your Mac, and Anarchive processes them there. It has no account, no analytics and no cloud service of its own, and every model it uses runs on your Mac. It goes online by itself only to check for a newer beta, which Settings can switch off. Otherwise it connects only when you ask it to, or when Photos fetches your own originals from iCloud (section 11).

This summary is here to help you read what follows; the numbered terms below are the agreement. Nothing in it affects your statutory rights.

1. LICENCE

The Developer grants you a limited, non-exclusive licence to use the Software. You have no further right to reproduce the Software, except to make archival or backup copies permitted by law, and no right to distribute it.

2. RESTRICTIONS

You may not distribute, sell, sublicense, rent, loan or lease the Software or any part of it.

You may not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble, or otherwise attempt to discover the source code or file formats of, the Software, RED file formats, RED products, RED protocols, other RED software, or any part of them.

3. OTHER RED SOFTWARE

If you need any other RED software or firmware in order to use the Software, you must obtain it under a valid licence, and your use of it must follow the terms of the end-user licence agreement that comes with it.

4. OWNERSHIP

The Software is licensed, not sold. The Developer and the Developer's suppliers keep all right, title and interest in the Software, including the intellectual property in it. Its structure, organisation and code are valuable trade secrets and confidential information of the Developer and those suppliers. The Software is protected by law, including copyright law, and by international treaties. Any copy you are permitted to make must keep the copyright, trademark and other proprietary notices that appear on or in the Software. All rights not expressly granted in this agreement are reserved.

5. NO WARRANTY

The Developer and the Developer's suppliers provide the Software "AS IS" and without warranty of any kind. They do not and cannot warrant the performance or results you may obtain by using the Software. They make no warranties, conditions, representations or terms, express or implied, whether by statute, common law, custom, usage or otherwise, as to the Software or any component of it, including but not limited to non-infringement of third-party rights, integration, merchantability, satisfactory quality or fitness for any particular purpose.

6. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

In no event will the Developer or the Developer's suppliers be liable to you for any damages, claims or costs whatsoever arising from this agreement or your use of the Software or any component of it, including without limitation any loss or corruption of data, libraries, pictures, videos or edits, any consequential, indirect or incidental damages, or any lost profits or lost savings, even if they have been advised of the possibility of such loss, damages, claims or costs, or for any claim by any third party. The Developer's aggregate liability under or in connection with this agreement is limited to one penny (£0.01). The aggregate liability of the Developer's suppliers under or in connection with this agreement is limited to fifty US dollars (US$50). Nothing in this agreement limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, and nothing in it affects your statutory rights.

7. THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE

Anarchive develops Nikon N-RAW video with the RED R3D SDK runtime, Copyright © 2008–2026 RED Digital Cinema. All rights reserved. RED is one of the Developer's suppliers: sections 2 to 6 apply to the runtime and are for RED's benefit as well as the Developer's. The runtime is included unmodified, under licence from RED. Anarchive is not certified by RED, and RED does not guarantee its performance. Support and updates for the Software come from the Developer, not from RED.

RED, R3D and N-RAW are trademarks of their respective owners.

Other third-party components are licensed to you under their own terms, listed in Credits (in About, and in Help ▸ Acknowledgements) and in the notices inside the application, among them the Lensfun lens database (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0), the MI-GAN inpainting model (MIT), the SAM 2.1 object selection model when you download it (Apache-2.0), the Depth Anything V2 Small depth model when you download it (Apache-2.0), the DINOv2 sky model when you download it (Apache-2.0), GeoNames place names (Creative Commons Attribution 4.0), the OpenNGC catalogue (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0) and Astropy's constellation table (BSD 3-Clause). Sections 1 and 2 do not limit the rights those licences give you in those components; they continue to apply to everything else, including the RED runtime.

8. BETA SOFTWARE: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

The Software is a pre-release ("beta") version. It has not been fully tested and is made available so that problems can be found and fixed. It may contain errors, may not work as described or at all, may be slow, may crash or stop responding, and may damage or lose data, including libraries, catalogue information, edits, previews and anything it makes. You use it entirely at your own risk.

The Software is designed never to change your original pictures and videos, and to erase only copies it made for itself. That is how it is meant to work, not a promise that it always will. Before you use the Software, keep an up-to-date backup of your originals and of your libraries somewhere the Software does not use, and do not let a library made with the Software be your only record of anything you value. Do not rely on the Software for work where an error, a delay or a loss would matter.

A library made or changed with one beta may not open, or may open differently, in a later version. The Developer may change, add or remove features, change file and library formats, or stop making the Software at any time, and does not promise to release a finished version.

Each beta stops opening libraries a set time after it was built (currently 90 days), shown in About, and tells you beforehand. When it stops, it leaves your libraries and originals as they are.

Sections 5 and 6 apply in full to the Software as a beta.

9. FREE OF CHARGE

The Software is provided free. Nothing is sold and no price is paid for it, and no support, updates, fixes or continued availability are owed to you. A contribution made through Help ▸ Support Anarchive… is a voluntary gift towards the running costs: it does not buy the Software, a licence, support, features or any warranty, and it does not change these terms.

The Software is free while it is a beta. A finished version may one day be paid for. If it is, that will be said clearly beforehand, a beta you already have is not charged for, and your libraries, originals and anything you made with the Software stay yours to keep and use.

10. PROBLEMS AND SUGGESTIONS

If anything goes wrong, such as a crash, a wrong result, lost or damaged data, or anything that seems broken, please tell the Developer through Help ▸ Send Feedback… or at feedback@getanarchive.com, saying what you did, what you expected and what happened. Reports are how the beta gets better, and they are welcome. The Developer reads them but cannot promise to answer each one or to fix every problem.

Please do not send original pictures, videos or other private material unless you are asked for something specific. Nothing from your library is sent unless you choose to send it.

If you send suggestions, ideas or other feedback, you allow the Developer to use them to improve the Software, worldwide, without payment, credit or time limit. You keep any rights you have in them.

11. PRIVACY

Anarchive is designed to keep your data on your Mac. Your pictures, videos, libraries and everything you make with the Software are stored and processed on your Mac. The Software has no account, collects no analytics and sends no crash or usage reports, and it has no cloud service of its own. Every model the Software uses, its own and Apple's on-device models, runs on your Mac.

The only internet contact the Software makes by itself is a daily check for a newer beta, which sends the Software's name and version and, like any internet request, your IP address. Settings › General can switch it off, and an update is installed only when you agree. If your Photos library keeps originals in iCloud, Photos may download your own originals from iCloud when the Software needs them; Settings › Photos can switch this off. Beyond that, the Software connects only when you ask it to: when you download an optional model (from the address shown before you download it), when you add to Photos or share, and when you turn on agent access. An agent you connect sends what it reads to its own provider, under that provider's terms, not these. Feedback reaches the Developer only when you choose to send it (section 10).

12. GOVERNING LAW

This agreement and any dispute arising from it or from your use of the Software are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you may also bring proceedings in the courts where you live.
